Abstract

Indigenous people in Saparua island have implemented the Dusung System as a forest garden system before the 16th century. This is one reason the Europeans tried to come to The Spice Island, which led to the colonialism for 350 years. The Dusung System in Saparua island has been applied by the support of customary institutional (Raja, Soa, Saniri, Kewang) and customary laws that are still widely applied and obeyed today, including Sasi. Dusung System forms can be classified based on land ownership status, dominant plant species, age of the plant, and location name.
