Aim and Background: Curcumin is a phytopolylphenol pigment found in the Curcuma longa plant. Curcumin is known to have several pharmacological properties. One of the pharmacological properties of curcumin is anti-inflammatory which is known to be used to treat stomatitis. Another plant with the same pharmacological properties is Aloe Vera, and Aloe Vera is a plant species with thick fleshy leaves from the genus Aloe. The aim of this study was to examine the anti-inflammatory effect of the combination of curcumin and aloe vera on recurrent aphthous stomatitis induced in rats.
Methods: The in vivo research model used five groups of rats, each group consisting of six male rats (Sprague Dawley). The criteria used were rats weighing 150-350 mg. All rats received 50% application of acetic acid induction to the mucosa.
Results: Topical application of curcumin: Aloe Vera (1: 2) combination showed better healing time than other combinations. Histopathological results also show that the curcumin: Aloe Vera (1: 2) combination provides an excellent healing effect.
Conclusion: The combination of Curcumin and Aloe Vera has shown positive results for the healing of oral ulcers induced by 50% acetic acid.
