One of the major sources of animal protein for human consumption is a fisheries resource. The demand for fish has increased in recent years due to population growth and the constant search for a healthy diet. Therefore, considerable attention has been given to the production and growth of freshwater fish in aquaculture. The present investigation aims to determine the impact of 17α-Methyltestosterone(17α-MT) on protein content, Aspartate aminotransferase(AST) and Alanine aminotransferase(ALT) level in certain tissues i.e. skeletal muscle, liver and gonad(ovary) of fish, Tilapia mossambica. Three different dosages of 17α-MT hormone such as 2 μg, 5 μg and 10 μg/10 gr body weight (b.w) of fish, were dissolved in 0.1 ml alcohol and administrated via, injection mode for 24 hours, 48 hours, 7 and 14 days. The fourth group of fish have received the hormone-free injection and served as a control group. The highest increment in tissue Protein content was observed under 10 μg MT/10 gr b.w. followed by 5 μg/10 gr b.w. and 2 μg/10 gr b.w. in skeletal muscle, liver and gonad (ovary) of fish. The more increase in Protein was observed after 14 days of the 17α-MT injection route of administration. Hence, it is clear that the anabolic hormones such as 17α-MT hormone play an important role in enhancing the tissue protein content for nutritional purposes. There was not much change in aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels.
